Yorkshire based Dave Edwards & Andy North are now planning their next Challenge. Our motivation continues building after seeing all the daily suffering by our armed forces and the increasing number of injured and devastated lives of our soldiers being affected by the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan.

We have run marathons and ultra marathon distances such as Coast to Coast 120 miles, the Dales Way Leeds to the Lakes 90 miles and in May 2010 the Land's End to John O' Groats Challenge so this challenge really raises the bar & for a much needed cause!

Andy North

Age; 48

What motivates you to complete this challenge?

I have always had a dream about helping other people and raising money by running a long way.  I always have admired adventurers and explorers such as Captain Scott, Mallory & Irvine and more recently Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

One of my favorite films is “Forest Gump”: what an amazing motivational story.

During recent years seeing all the appalling injuries our soldiers have had to endure during the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts and when they have to settle back into civilian life with little recognition or support.  After meeting the Army Benevolent Fund and hearing the brilliant work they do to support the soldiers and their families made up my mind to attempt this challenge.

What qualifies you to complete such a challenging event?

From running at School for the School I have naturally always enjoyed being outdoors and have run ever since.  During recent years I have completed a few off road marathons and ultra marathon distances and more recently joined a local running club to increase fitness levels.

The Personal Training Studio in Bingley provides ongoing fitness and nutritional guidelines.

With regards to cycling I have just purchased a road bike and gear.  The training for this side of the challenge starts now (6th Dec 2009) and is the really exciting part for me as it is now over 30 years since riding a road bike.

Where did you get the idea for this event?

I met Dave Edwards about 5 years ago at a company event and over a pint of Guinness or two we quickly realized we both have similar interests and started to plan for this event.

Having discussed the Lands End to John O’ Groats distances with friends and colleagues the idea of running and cycling was evolved.

What do you do for a living?

I work as an Operations Director for a contract catering company, providing meals & refreshments within workplace environments.  I have progressed from qualifying as a Chef at Bradford College in 1978.

I am a member of the Academy of Chief Executives and enjoy the personal development and training seminars

Dave Edwards

Age: 51

What motivates you to complete this challenge?

After watching many daily news bulletins, I have been able to witness the devastating yet brave images of soldiers fighting the war in Afghanistan. These overwhelming images have made me really reflect on life and how lucky I am. I have a real passion for running and cycling and with my enthusiasm and determination, I wanted to use my hobby to help the soldiers in any way I can. Therefore I chose to pursue the SoT Challenge.

What qualifies you to complete such a challenging event?

I have always had a real passion for sport, in particular running. I have completed over 50 marathons and ultra distances including Coast to Coast and Dales Way. For some of these marathons I have raised money for national and local charities including the NSPCC, Lions International and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

As a member of David Lloyd Leisure Centre, I have also completed a triathlon, which really motivated me to complete a more challenging event that would really push me to the limit.

Where did you get this idea for this event?

During a conversation with Andy when a few drinks were consumed and suggestions from my work colleagues.

What do you do for a living?

I am currently the Head Chef at the David Lloyd Leisure Centre in Leeds, which allows me to mix my two favourite passions, sport and food. I have worked there for nearly seven years.
